Blu-ray Disc..

by dancefloor murderer on Nov.22, 2009, under

Nowadays, optical discs are having a great impact on storage as it can hold up for over fifty gigabytes of data. In optical-disc technology, laser beam alters the surface of a metallic disk to present a data. Usually, the disc is read by an optical disc drive using a laser that projects a tiny beam of light. Compact disc, known as CD is one of the most widely used optical formats. Others types of optical disc is digital versatile disc,DVD. While CDs and DVDs are the most widely used optical discs, there are still lack of using them like insufficient for recording high-definition video, and others. As a result, the next generation of optical disc is build on. The current is Blu-ray Disc (BD) that is the topic that i wanna discuss here..:)

Blu-ray (not Blue-ray) also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.

Blu-ray products can easily be made backwards compatible with CDs and DVDs through the use of a BD/DVD/CD compatible optical pickup unit. The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD. This together with the change of numerical aperture to 0.85 is what enables Blu-ray Discs to hold 25GB/50GB.

Question & Answer session with Mr.Ramueldo...
:)

Q: Blu-ray,what it is?

Ramueldo: "Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD) is the name of a next-generation optical disc format. The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc."

Q: Why the name is Blu-ray?

Ramueldo: "The name Blu-ray is derived from the underlying technology, which utilizes a blue-violet laser to read and write data. The name is a combination of "Blue" (blue-violet laser) and "Ray" (optical ray). According to the Blu-ray Disc Association the spelling of "Blu-ray" is not a mistake, the character "e" was intentionally left out so the term could be registered as a trademark. The correct full name is Blu-ray Disc, not Blu-ray Disk (incorrect spelling)
The correct shortened name is Blu-ray, not Blu-Ray (incorrect capitalization) or Blue-ray (incorrect spelling)
The correct abbreviation is BD, not BR or BRD (wrong abbreviation)."

Q: How much data can you fit on a Blu-ray disc?
Ramueldo: "A single-layer disc can hold 25GB. A dual-layer disc can hold 50GB.

-To ensure that the Blu-ray Disc format is easily extendable (future-proof) it also includes support for multi-layer discs, which should allow the storage capacity to be increased to 100GB-200GB (25GB per layer) in the future simply by adding more layers to the discs."

Q: How much video can you fit on a Blu-ray disc?

Ramueldo: "Over 9 hours of high-definition (HD) video on a 50GB disc n about 23 hours of standard-definition (SD) video on a 50GB disc."

Q: How fast can you read/write data on a Blu-ray disc?

Ramueldo: "According to the Blu-ray Disc specification, 1x speed is defined as 36Mbps. However, as BD-ROM movies will require a 54Mbps data transfer rate the minimum speed we're expecting to see is 2x (72Mbps). Blu-ray also has the potential for much higher speeds, as a result of the larger numerical aperture (NA) adopted by Blu-ray Disc. The large NA value effectively means that Blu-ray will require less recording power and lower disc rotation speed than DVD and HD-DVD to achieve the same data transfer rate. While the media itself limited the recording speed in the past, the only limiting factor for Blu-ray is the capacity of the hardware. If we assume a maximum disc rotation speed of 10,000 RPM, then 12x at the outer diameter should be possible (about 400Mbps). This is why the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) already has plans to raise the speed to 8x (288Mbps) or more in the future."

Q: What video codecs will Blu-ray support?
Ramueldo: "MPEG-2 - enhanced for HD, also used for playback of DVDs and HDTV recordings.
MPEG-4 AVC - part of the MPEG-4 standard also known as H.264 (High Profile and Main Profile).
SMPTE VC-1 - standard based on Microsoft's Windows Media Video (WMV) technology."

Q: What audio codecs will Blu-ray support?

Ramueldo: "Linear PCM (LPCM) - up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. (mandatory)
Dolby Digital (DD) - format used for DVDs, 5.1-channel surround sound. (mandatory)
Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) - extension of Dolby Digital, 7.1-channel surround sound. (optional)
Dolby TrueHD - lossless encoding of up to 8 channels of audio. (optional)
DTS Digital Surround - format used for DVDs, 5.1-channel surround sound. (mandatory)
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio - extension of DTS, 7.1-channel surround sound. (optional)
DTS-HD Master Audio - lossless encoding of up to 8 channels of audio. (optional)"

Q: Will Blu-ray replace DVDs?
Ramueldo: "Yes, that's the expectation. The Blu-ray format has received broad support from the major movie studios as a successor to today's DVD format. In fact, seven of the eight major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) have released titles in the Blu-ray format. Many studios have also announced that they will begin releasing new feature films on Blu-ray Disc day-and-date with DVD, as well as a continuous slate of catalog titles every month. However, the two formats (Blu-ray and DVD) will most likely co-exist for quite some time until HDTVs become more widespread."

Blue-ray Disc

In a nut shell, in this modern and sophisticated world today, there are many new technologies were created day by day. As we can see here, Blu-ray disc is created as a next generation of optical disc to replace the insufficient of CDs and DVDs. Every weakness of technologies in the past was replaced by others new technologies better and better. Maybe after 30 and 40 years in the future, people are not burden of work anymore as the technologies will help us to do our work better. Personally,blue-ray disc gives me satisfication in watching movies or playing games!(PS3..hehehe..:)..

Apple iPad..♥♥♥ ..the one that i should get..

by dancefloor murderer on Nov.22, 2009, under

Apple iPad, one of the latest product from Apple Inc.exciting all people around the world for its existence. Apple itself introduce its Macintosh microcomputer and operating system called Mac OS and has become famous for the users. It is powerful, easy to conduct as it is popular with professional graphic designers and home users. In April 2010,Apple had launched its new product,a tablet PC,called iPad an it is particularly marketed as a platform for the use of audio and visual media such as books, periodicals, movies, music, and games, as well as web content. Generally speaking,i am the lucky one if i get this iPad!This product is very interesting as its design is quite chill for teenagers like me and the specifications is the best as tablet PC..:)

Apple had launced two model of iPad that are Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+3G.At about 700 grams, its size and weight are between most contemporary smartphones and laptop computers. Apple sold 3 million iPads in the first 80 days after its April 2010 release. The iPad runs the same operating system as the previously introduced iPod Touch and iPhone. However until fall 2010 it runs a slightly older version than the iPhone. It can run its own specific applications as well as those developed originally for the iPhone. Without modification, it will only run programs approved by Apple and distributed via its online store.

Like iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad is controlled by a multitouch display sensitive to up to eleven fingers — a break from most previous tablet computers, which used a pressure-triggered stylus. The iPad uses Wi-Fi or a 3G mobile data connection to browse the Internet, load and stream media, and install software. A USB cable is required to sync the iPad with iTunes on a personal computer, by which the device is managed.

SCREEN AND OUTPUT

The iPad's touchscreen display is a 25 cm (9.7 in) liquid crystal display (1024 × 768 pixels) with fingerprint-resistant and scratch-resistant glass it is designed to be controlled by bare fingers.iPad is built-in applications support screen rotation in all four orientations (the three aforementioned ones along with upside-down), meaning that the device has no intrinsic "native" orientation; only the position of the home button changes.

The iPad has a switch to lock out this screen rotation function (reportedly to prevent unintended rotation when the user is lying down). There are a total of four physical switches, including a home button below the display that returns the user to the main menu, and three plastic physical switches on the sides: wake/sleep and volume up/down, along with the screen rotation lock.

CONNECTIVITY

It use Wi-Fi network trilateration from Skyhook Wireless to provide location information to applications and the 3G model contains A-GPS to allow its position to be calculated with GPS or relative to nearby cellphone towers.

AUDIO AND OUTPUT

It has two internal speakers that push mono sound through two small sealed channels to the three audio ports carved into the bottom-right of the unit. A volume switch is on the right side of the unit.
It is also contains a microphone that can be used for voice recording.

STORAGE AND SIM

The iPad was released with three options for internal storage size that are 16, 32, or 64 GB flash drive. All data is stored on the flash drive and there is no option to expand storage.
The side of the Wi-Fi + 3G model has a micro-SIM slot (not mini-SIM). Unlike the iPhone, which is usually sold locked to specific carriers, the 3G iPad is sold unlocked and can be used with any compatible GSM carrier.

so,when will i get this stuff??huhu..

Apple iPad

"it is hard to believe we could fit so many ideas into something so thin"

By the way, after doing some researches,i found that i should get it one..why??because there are something that attracted me...For instance:

  • LED-Backlit IPS Display

The HD 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display on iPad is remarkably crisp and vivid so that makes it perfect for web browsing, watching movies, or viewing photos. There is no up or down with iPad. It’s designed to show off my content in portrait or landscape orientation with every turn. And because it uses a display technology called IPS (in-plane switching), it has a wide, 178° viewing angle. So i can hold it almost any way i want and still get a brilliant picture, with excellent color and contrast.

  • Multi-Touch

The Multi-Touch screen on iPad is based on the same revolutionary technology on iPhone. But the technology has been completely reengineered for the larger iPad surface, making it extremely precise and responsive. So whether i am zooming in on a map, flicking through my photos, or deleting an email, iPad responds with incredible accuracy. And it does just what i want it to..hehe

  • Thin and Light

It is very light!!Seriously!!... The screen is 9.7 inches measured diagonally. So overall, it’s slightly smaller than a magazine. At just 1.5 pounds and 0.5 inch thin,i can use it anywhere. And a slight curve to the back makes it easy to pick up and comfortable to hold.

  • Up to 10 Hours of Battery Life

To maximize battery life, Apple engineers took the same lithium-polymer battery technology they developed for Mac notebook computers and applied it to the iPad. As a result, i can use iPad for up to 10 hours while surfing the web on Wi-Fi especially Facebook and Twitter, watching videos, or listening to music. While surfing the web on a 3G data network, i can get up to 9 hours of battery life.

  • Wireless

It automatically locates available Wi-Fi networks, which mean i can join with a few taps. iPad also comes with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, letting me connect to devices like wireless headphones or the Apple Wireless Keyboard.

  • 3G

iPad is also available in a 3G model with superfast data speeds up to 7.2 Mbps.3 So if i am traveling or i happen to be somewhere without a Wi-Fi network, i can still get a fast connection for surfing the web, downloading email, or getting directions.
  • Audio

The powerful built-in speaker produces rich, full sound perfect for watching a movie or listening to music. iPad also comes with a headphone jack and a built-in microphone. That's mean i will not bring my mp3 players after this!just enough with iPad!:)

  • Mail

There’s nothing like the Mail app on iPad. With a split-screen view and expansive onscreen keyboard, it lets me see and touch my email in ways i never could before..
  • Photos

A vivid LED-backlit IPS display makes viewing photos on iPad extraordinary. Open albums with a tap. Flip through my pictures one by one. Or play a slideshow and share my photos with others...
  • Videos

The 9.7-inch high-resolution screen makes iPad perfect for watching HD movies, TV shows, podcasts, music videos, and more..Maybe for playing games also!!huhu
  • And Many More!!!.. edited from: http://www.apple.com/ipad/design/

~As a conclusion,Mac Inc. should be proud for their great product for this time as this product already sold for about 3 million units(as of June 2010,just 2 month after the releasing). Hopefully,Apple will give impetus in innovation of development of tablet PC and technologies as well.
p/s: To Apple iPad,thumbs up!!~ramueldo

USB3.0 (a.k.a. SuperSpeed USB)

by dancefloor murderer on Nov.22, 2009, under

A bus line(also known as a bus) is used to connects the parts of the CPU to each other. It is also used to link the CPU to others components on the system board.Every computer system has two basic categories of buses that are system buses and expansion buses. The expansion buses is the one who connects the CPU to others component and one type of this expansion buses is Universal Serial Bus (USB).

Universal Serial Bus has commonly used today and the most popular one as it supports several external devices without using expansion cards or slots.USB also generally used and replace the serial and parallel ports.USB also has become standard connection of devices like mouse,mp3 player, printers and many more. There are three generation of USB currently such as USB 1.0,USB 2.0,and the latest is USB3.0.

USB3.0 is the latest generation of USB and all people are waiting for it.This version seemly called Super Speed USB3.0 as it speed is upgraded to highest theoretical top of 5Gbit/sec...THAT'S AMAZING!!:)-ramuEldo

HOW DOES USB3.0 ACHIEVE THE EXTRA PERFORMANCE?

USB 3.0 achieves the much higher performance by way of a number of technical changes. Perhaps the most obvious change is an additional physical bus that is added in parallel with the existing USB 2.0 bus. This means that where USB 2.0 previously had 4 wires (power, ground, and a pair for differential data), USB 3.0 adds 4 more for two pairs of differential signals (receive and transmit) for a combined total of 8 connections in the connectors and cabling. These extra two pairs were necessary to support the SuperSpeed USB target bandwidth requirements, because the two wire differential signals of USB 2.0 were not enough.

Furthermore, the signaling method, while still host-directed, is now asynchronous instead of polling. USB 3.0 utilizes a bi-directional data interface rather than USB 2.0's half-duplex arrangement, where data can only flow in one direction at a time. Without getting into any more technical mumbo jumbo, this all combines to give a ten-fold increase in theoretical bandwidth, and a welcome improvement noticeable by anyone when SuperSpeed USB products hit the market.

WHAT OTHERS IMPROVEMENT USB3.0 PROVIDED?

The enhancements to SuperSpeed USB are not just for higher data rates, but for improving the interaction between device and host computer. While the core architectural elements are inherited from before, several changes were made to support the dual bus arrangement, and several more are notable for how users can experience the improvement that USB 3.0 makes over USB 2.0:

* More power when needed
o 50% more power is provided for unconfigured or suspended devices (150 mA up from 100 mA), and 80% more power is available for configured devices (900 mA up from 500 mA). This means that more power-hungry devices could be bus powered, and battery powered devices that previously charged using bus power could potentially charge more quickly.
o A new Powered-B receptable is defined with two extra contacts that enable a devices to provide up to 1000 mA to another device, such as a Wireless USB adapter. This eliminates the need for a power supply to accompany the wireless adapter...coming just a bit closer to the ideal system of a wireless link without wires (not even for power). In regular wired USB connections to a host or hub, these 2 extra contacts are not used.

* Less power when it's not needed
Power efficiency was a key objective in the move to USB 3.0. Some examples of more efficient use of power are:
o Link level power management, which means either the host computer or the device can initiate a power savings state when idle
o The ability for links to enter progressively lower power management states when the link partners are idle
o Continuous device polling is eliminated
o Broadcast packet transmission through hubs is eliminated
o Device and individual function level suspend capabilities allow devices to remove power from all, or portions of their circuitry not in use

* Streaming for bulk transfers is supported for faster performance

* Isochronous transfers allows devices to enter low power link states between service intervals

* Devices can communicate new information such as their latency tolerance to the host, which allows better power performance

To paint an accurate picture, not everything in USB 3.0 is a clear improvement. Cable length, for one, is expected to have a significant limitation when used in applications demanding the highest possible throughput. Although maximum cable length is not specified in the USB 3.0 specification, the electrical properties of the cable and signal quality limitations may limit the practical length to around 3 metres when multi-gigabit transfer rates are desired. This length, of course, can be extended through the use of hubs or signal extenders.

Additionally, some SuperSpeed USB hardware, such as hubs, may always be more expensive than their USB 2.0 counterparts. This is because by definition, a SuperSpeed hub contains 2 hubs: one that enumerates as a SuperSpeed hub, and a second one that enumerates as a regular high-speed hub. Until the USB hub silicon becomes an integrated SuperSpeed USB + Hi-Speed USB part, there may always be a significant price difference.

Some unofficial discussion has surfaced on the web with respect to fiber-optic cabling for longer cable length with USB 3.0. The specification makes no mention of optical cabling, so we conclude that this will be defined in a future spec revision, or left to 3rd party companies to implement cable extension solutions for SuperSpeed USB.

SuperSpeed USB3.0

SuperSpeed USB brings significant performance enhancements to the ubiquitous USB standard, while remaining compatible with the billions of USB enabled devices currently deployed in the market. SuperSpeed USB will deliver 10x the data transfer rate of Hi-Speed USB, as well as improved power efficiency.

* SuperSpeed USB has a 5 Gbps signaling rate offering 10x performance increase over Hi-Speed USB.
* SuperSpeed USB is a Sync-N-Go technology that minimizes user wait-time.
* SuperSpeed USB will provide Optimized Power Efficiency. No device polling and lower active and idle power requirements.
* SuperSpeed USB is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. Devices interoperate with USB 2.0 platforms. Hosts support USB 2.0 legacy devices.

edited from: http://www.usb.org/developers/ssusb

By the way,the release of USB3.0 actually is the proof of development of "Internet World" nowadays. As the technologies is going on time by time, people can make work simpler and faster by using this technologies.Who would have thought, after this maybe there are more faster of transferring data other than USB3.0. Maybe after this,i should get it one!hehe.. Last word, USB 3.0 a.k.a SuperSpeed USB,what an awesome!!!:)-ramuEldo

Andainya pernah menghiris hatimu
Restumu yang amatlah aku harapkan
Kerana disitu letak syurgaku

Tabahnya melayani kenakalan anakmu
Mengajarku erti kesabaran
Kau bagai pelita di kala aku kegelapan
Menyuluh jalan kehidupan

Kasihanilah Tuhan ibu yang telah melahirkan diriku
Bagaikan kasih ibu sewaktu kecilku
Moga bahgia ibu di dunia dan di akhirat sana...

Kasih sayangmu sungguh bernilai
Itulah harta yang engkau berikan
Ibu... dengarlah rintih hatiku untukmu ibu..
